Longing for an idyllic escape from bustling, busy Tokyo? Ogasawara Islands, located about 1,000 km south of Tokyo, may just be what you are looking for. Here are 3 gorgeous things you can do there!

1) Diving

Take a 24-hour boat ride from Takeshiba Pier in Tokyo, and you'll reach Ogasawara Islands. Ogasawara Islands is made up of 30 islands, of which the largest island, Chichi-jima (literally 'Father Island'), is a splendid place for diving as it boasts glittery turquoise seas.

Teeming with marine life, the sea allows you to get up close and personal with sea creatures and let your stresses melt away as you take in the visual feast of bright colors. Who knows, you may just be lucky enough to swim alongside dolphins!

2) Animal Watching

Animal lovers will squeal with delight as they get to see not just dolphins, but also other animals like sharks, manta ray, green turtles, humpback whales and sperm whales. Do note that the best time to see humpback whales and sperm whales is Jan-Apr and May-Nov respectively - and make an appointment at the tourist information office in Chichi-jima to see them!

Viewing these magnificent creatures in their unspoiled, natural habitat sure makes it a tranquil escape from the concrete jungle.

3) Trekking

After you spend some time in Chichi-jima, you can take a two-hour boat ride to reach Haha-jima (literally 'Mother Island). Haha-jima will definitely appeal to outdoor enthusiasts as it boasts lush, verdant vegetation. Chock-full of rare plant species that are not easily found elsewhere, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

So start your journey at the Minami-zaki Yuhodo and trek all the way to Minami-zaki (literally ‘southern point’) - while enjoying an inviting aura of serenity!
